Introduction

 

A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is required when ordering an SSL-certificate, this is generated from a private key.

 

If you wish to create the private key yourself you will also have to generate the CSR, follow Generating a CSR.

 

When you receive your certificate then follow Installation of SSL certificate.

 

Generating a CSR

 

  1. Login to your Plesk control panel.

 

  1. Click SSL/TLS Certificates under the website.

 

 

  1. Click Add SSL/TLS Certificate.

 

 

  1. Enter the following information:

 

    • Certificate name: Give the certificate a friendly name so you can easily remember when it is for, e.g. the full DNS name (www.fairssl.dk)
    • Bits: Must be at least 2048
    • Country: The country the company is located in
    • State or province: The state or municipality, in Denmark the municipality is used (e.g. Norddjurs)
    • Location (city): The city where the company is located (e.g. Ørum Djurs)
    • Organization name (company): The full name of the company, exactly as presented in CVR (e.g. FairSSL A/S)
    • Organization department or division name: Should be left empty, is not used any more
    • Domain name: The full DNS name of your website, also called Common name (e.g. www.fairssl.dk)
    • Email: The email address to the domain administrator

 

Click Request.

 

 

  1. Click on the certificate.

 

 

  1. Copy the entire text, incl. all the dashes before and after.

Insert the copied text in the CSR field during the certificate ordering.

The following is an example of a complete CSR text:

 

 

 

A CSR does not contain any private information, and there are no security risks by sending the CSR to us through an unencrypted email.

 

Installation of SSL certificate

 

The installation is different depending on if you created the CSR directly in Plesk or elsewhere.

 

If you have created the CSR in Plesk, follow CSR created in Plesk.

 

If your CSR is made elsewhere, e.g. our CSR-service, then followCSR created elsewhere.

 

CSR created in Plesk

 

  1. Login to your Plesk control panel

 

  1. Click SSL/TLS Certificates under the website

 

 

  1. Click on the name of the certificate you wish to install

 

 

  1. Locate Upload the certificate files

Click Choose File next to Certificate and select the server certificate.

Click Choose File next to CA certificate and select the intermediate certificate.

Click Upload Certificate

 

 

  1. Return to the front page

Click Hosting Settings under the website

 

 

  1. Locate Security and flag SSL/TLS support

Select the certificate in the list

 

 

We recommend that you test the installation with our server tester at https://www.fairssl.net/en/ssltest

 

CSR created elsewhere

 

  1. Login to your Plesk control panel

 

  1. Click SSL/TLS Certificates under the website

 

 

  1. Click Add SSL/TLS Certificate

 

 

  1. Locate Upload the certificate files

Click Choose File next to Private key and select the private key.

Click Choose File next to Certificate and select the server certificate.

Click Choose File next to CA certificate and select the intermediate certificate.

Click Upload Certificate

 

 

  1. Return to the front page

Click Hosting Settings under the website

 

 

  1. Locate Security and flag SSL/TLS support

Select the certificate in the list

 

 

We recommend that you test the installation with our server tester at https://www.fairssl.net/en/ssltest

 

Intermediate certificates

 

Here you can find the intermediate certificates from different Certificate Authorities.

We recommend that you use the intermediate certificate you got with your server certificate, and only download from here in case you lose it, as the one you get in the mail will always be the correct one for your server certificate.
