Email Sign Administration
Introduction
Email certificates are used to sign and encrypt emails.
The actual encryption is the same, no matter which certificate you choose.
When signing an email the identity will be shown, this is different dependent on the certificate:
Class 1: Will only be validated on the email, and only the email address will be shown in the certificate.
DigiCert Class 1 S/MIME, Sectigo Personal Authentication, GlobalSign PersonalSign 1
Class 2: Will be validated on both the email and the organisation, both the email address, the user/department name and the organisation information will be shown in the certificate.
DigiCert Premium, Sectigo Personal Authentication Pro, GlobalSign PersonalSign 2, GlobalSign PersonalSign Pro 2, GlobalSign PersonalSign 2 Department
Outlook Windows
- Open Outlook.
- Click File.
Click Options.
- Click Trust Center on the left.
Click Trust Center Settings on the right.
- Click Email Security on the left.
Click Import/Export.
- Click Browse and find your certificate file.
Enter the password for the file.
Click OK.
- Click OK.
- Click Settings.
- Enter a name for your default settings.
Click Choose next to Signing Certificate.
- Select your certificate.
If it is not the correct certificate click More choices and select the correct one in the list.
- Select SHA256 in Hash Algorithm.
- Click Choose next to Encyption Certificate.
- Select your certificate.
If it is not the correct certificate click More choices and select the correct one in the list.
- Select AES (256-bit) in Encryption Algorithm.
Click OK until you are fully out of Options.
- Start a new email.
Click File in the new email.
Click Options.
- Click Customize Ribbon.
Select All Commands in Choose commands from.
Click New Group on the right.
Click Rename and name it for example Security.
Find Sign in the left column and click Add.
Find Encrypt in the left column and click Add.
Click OK until you are fully out of Options.
- You should now have a button for Encrypt and one for Sign at the top of new emails.
Mac OS X
- Click Applications on the menu bar.
Click Utilities.
Click Keychain Access.
- Click Login on the left.
Click File on the menu bar.
Click Import Items.
- Find your certificate file.
Click Open.
- Enter the password for the file.
Click OK.
